I was 19 years of age when I first sat down with the Latter-day Saint missionaries. I had attended a Catholic school all my life, and yet, when they taught me the Plan of Salvation, it was as if I had heard it for the first time! And it was! I will never forget the way in which they taught it to me. I am a very visual person and their lesson as to what happens to our body and spirit after we die has stuck in my mind even after all these years. I was so thankful to have learned such a vital piece of information because it helped me to realize that there is so much more to life than our mortal existence! I have used their lesson to teach the Plan of Salvation to my children, and to many others as well throughout the years.
While I was preparing my seminary lesson this morning, I came across this video by President Boyd K. Packard. I became so excited as I watched him speak about the spirit and the body the same way that Elder James, Elder Dryer, and Elder Focht taught it to me all those years ago. In fact, it was this particular discussion that helped me to make the decision to become a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.
I am so thankful for the knowledge of the Plan of Salvation, also known as the Plan of Happiness. I feel comforted in knowing that God has a plan for each of us. We lived with him before we were sent here to receive our bodies and to grow through our experiences, and if we choose, we will continue to live with Him into eternity. Our life here on earth is essential to His Plan of Salvation, as is death. Our lives are not finished here. What great pleasure it brings me to know that I will continue to live on and have the opportunity to do so with my family.
Enjoy the video!
