I have grown to love and depend on the teachings of the Book of Mormon. Don’t get me wrong, I also love the Bible and all of its doctrine and principles. However, the Book of Mormon, which is another testament of Jesus Christ, is more precise and easier for me to understand and reinforces the teachings that are in the Bible.
Having read the Book of Mormon several times in the past few years, I have come to feel like I have a personal relationship with some of the people mentioned therein. Until I studied the words within the pages carefully, I couldn’t really understand why our leaders were admonishing us to read the Book of Mormon over and over again with urgency. Having done so, sometimes I feel like this divine book has been written just for me.
In the April 2011 General Conference, President Thomas S. Monson addressed the congregation and spoke about the importance of feasting on the words of the Book of Mormon. He said, “If you have not read the Book of Mormon, read it.” Then he made this promise that I know and have a testimony of being true. He promised that if we “do so prayerfully and with a sincere desire to know the truth, the Holy Ghost will manifest its truth” to us. I am numbered among thousands of people who have taken on this challenge and did feel the Holy Ghost testify to me of its divinity and truth. This book of scripture has changed my life. It has helped me to understand who I am, what my worth is, and how to live a truly happy and fulfilled life. It’s not to say that life is perfect for me, but the Book of Mormon has given me the guidance and direction I require to be able to deal with the blows of life and stand firm in my holy place. I promise that if anyone has the desire of which President Monson mentions, that he or she will gain their own testimony. Find the truth out for yourselves!
